This innovative orthodontic treatment repositions the teeth using a series of clear, plastic trays rather than conventional orthodontic appliances. The trays don’t obscure the teeth, and in fact others may not even realize that you’re wearing them! Furthermore, the trays can be removed at mealtime or for the patient’s daily oral hygiene regimen.
At your initial Invisalign consultation, the dentist will gather the information needed for the specifications for the aligner trays. Advanced computer technology helps to determine the exact design that will allow the aligners to achieve the desired movement of the teeth. Patients receive anywhere between 12 and 48 aligner trays depending on their needs.
Invisalign® repositions teeth using a series of clear, plastic trays rather than conventional orthodontic appliances. When the trays are ready, the patient will begin to wear them according to the dentist’s instructions. You will be responsible for wearing them for the recommended duration each day, typically 20-22 hours. Additionally, you must swap out the trays on schedule so that the teeth will continue to move into their proper positions. Usually, the patient switches to a different tray every other week or so.
The changes are gradual and subtle, but because your teeth continue to be visible through the trays, you’ll be able to see the results much more quickly than you can with conventional orthodontic treatment.
Invisalign tends to be a much more convenient option than standard orthodontic treatment for a number of reasons. Because the patient can remove the tray to eat, no food is off limits out of concern of damaging the appliances. Of course, patients should always use good judgment in limiting sweets to protect their oral health.
